Initiation of the Program
The Clinical Peer Mentorship Program was developed by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), with significant input from William Misciagna from the Class of 2026, and was inaugurated in 2026.
Purpose
The Clinical Peer Mentorship Program is designed to support third-year medical students throughout their core clinical year. This program supplements the guidance provided by Clerkship Directors, Faculty, and the Office of Student Affairs by connecting M3 students with experienced fourth-year peers who have successfully completed their clerkships and can provide honest, confidential advice about how to succeed during the clinical years. The program provides M3 students with practical, experience-based guidance while offering M4 mentors the opportunity to develop leadership, teaching, and mentorship skills.
Mentorship to Facilitate Learning and Professional Growth
Mentors serve as approachable guides who help M3 students navigate the clinical learning environment. Rather than replacing formal instruction, mentors provide practical advice, share effective strategies, and help students develop confidence in their clinical roles. Mentorship may include sharing resources, answering questions, offering rotation-specific advice, and hosting optional group and individual check-ins and review sessions.
